Feast of the Senses

Market Day – Sunday 25 March

The Feast of the Senses is North Queensland’s premier tropical fruit event!  Showcasing our amazing variety of exotic tropical fruits and produce it is like no other festival in Australia and is truly a feast for all of your senses.
The Australian Bananas Market Day extravaganza is the highlight of the Festival featuring around 100 tropical food and produce stalls, as well as entertainment, displays and workshops. This event attracts over 8000 visitors from throughout Queensland and is the Cassowary Coast region’s largest event of the year.
2018 Australian Bananas Market Day Extravaganza will be held in Innisfail CBD on Sunday 25 March.
Entry is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for pensioners and school aged children.    Some of the highlights of this year’s Australian Bananas Market Day Extravaganza will be:

As always the central point of the day will be the huge marquee at the intersection of Edith and Rankin which will house Rare Fruit Australia and a fabulous display of rare and exotic produce of the region.   This display is not to be missed – taste some of the most famous of the crops including Durian, the King of the Fruits.   During the course of the afternoon some of the fruit will be auctioned off – an entertaining exercise on its own….

Brothers Leagues Club Canecutter Stage  :  which will host:
Brothers Leagues Club Community Cookery Competition.   This is open to the general public, with entrants ‘from the floor’ taking part in quick mystery box creations
Innisfail Chamber of Commerce Celebrity Cook-Off.    This is an invitation only event, again a mystery box competition, but this one relies on bribery, blackmail and corruption more than the culinary skills of the competitors.   All good fun with the total ill gotten gains being donated to the winner’s choice of charity
There will be some demonstrations and short talks on this stage throughout the day as well.

MAMS Group Entertainment Stage : Rankin Street
The program for this will be published shortly, but we can guarantee a quality program of entertainment over the course of the day.   Plenty of shady seating will allow you to watch and listen in comfort.

Edith Street Children’s Activity Area : with sponsors including Mayocchi Builders, Good Start Early Learning Centre, Patch Apple Nutrition, Innisfail Creatives and Innisfail Woodworkers Guild.
Never before have we seen such a collection of talented people creating activities and projects for children at Market Day.    Projects include rag weaving, traditional weaving, children’s food art and carving as well as some more general activities.   It will be hard to miss as the centre of Edith Street from Owen Street to the central pedestrian crossing will be filled with marquees and that’s where the action will be.    This will not be a child minding centre, but there will be shaded seating for parents to enjoy a break.

The Bananathon Challenge, sponsored by LMB Bananas with a perpetual trophy sponsored by Furniture World is a new event in 2018.   For this, our first venture into such an event we will keep it simple.   Open to anyone this is a run of approximately 5 kms, taking in the bridge to bridge circuit.    The race will start and finish next to the colourful Australian Bananas Marquee in Canecutter Court.   Commencing at 8.30am, registration will possible on the day.   Return of the runners to Canecutter will be announced by the combined Innisfail Pipe and Drums Band of Innisfail and Tablelands.
